The latest round of train fare rises has been branded a "disgrace" by local Liberal Democrat Leader Cllr David McBride.

The price rises mean that some fares locally will rise by 14% for off-peak fares in to London. This is on the back of similar price rises last year. This means that in the last two years some fares have risen by a third, whereas wages have risen by only 2 or 3%.

"These price rises are, quite frankly, an absolute disgrace," said Cllr McBride. "It is questionable whether local residents are seeing a real improvement for their money, with trains still being overcrowded and journeys affected by cancellations," he added.
