Cllr David McBride has been urging Bromley to act on the cut in services at Queen Mary's for several years.

Liberal Democrat Leader Cllr David McBride has accused Bromley Council of "letting down" residents in the east of the Borough by failing to respond to a recent consultation document on the future of hospital services locally.

The proposals include plans to hugely downsize services at Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup, which is used by many residents in the Crays, Chislehurst and Mottingham. The proposals, if agreed, would mean the closure of the maternity, children's and A&E Units at the Sidcup hospital.

Despite the amount of use by Bromley's residents, the Tory controlled Council failed to respond to the consultation document. Other nearby Boroughs, such as Bexley and Lewisham, all responded.

"The Council has badly let down residents in the east of the Borough," said Cllr David McBride. "I have been questioning Tories for several years on this issue and all they have done is bat my questions away and line up for photos with Boris Johnson outside the hospital. However, the records will show that when it counted, they did nothing. That is simply not good enough," the Liberal Democrat Leader added.
